i honestly don't need anything for Christmas but the amazing friends and fantastic experiences that moving to Baltimore has brought me.

But, due to (i swear) popular demand, i have created wish lists on both Amazon.com and ThinkGeek.com.

Just use my email address (dave DOT mirth AT gmail DOT com) to search and you should find them.

but, seriously, you crazy people are all the Ramahannukwanzmastice present a guy could want...

    : ) thank you all!

    Scientists Discover Tool-Using Octopus

which means, i guess, that we should all start preparing for the inevitable invasion by learning how to speak Cephalapoidese, or whatever....whoop whoop whoop whoop!

The second show of the Hack & Slash Christmas Special was tonight, and it absolutely rocked. When the audience cheered for the ninja bit...well, I can honestly say I've never been a part of something onstage that got that much of an ovation. It felt amazing. Thanks to everyone who came out and cheered, and congratulations to the cast and crew. We really knocked it out of the ballpark tonight.

If you haven't seen it, there's one show left! Sunday at 2pm. Get your tickets now:

internet chain letters - even funny ones - tend to wash over me and then be immediately forgotten, but i found this one genuinely clever enough to be deserving of a longer life:

    Random Thoughts for the Day:

    1. I think part of a best friend's job should be to immediately clear
your computer history if you die.

    2. Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when
    you realize you're wrong.

    3. I totally take back all those times I didn't want to nap when I was
    younger.

    4. There is great need for a sarcasm font.

    5. How the hell are you supposed to fold a fitted sheet?

    6. Was learning cursive really necessary?

    7. Map Quest really needs to start their directions on #5. I'm pretty
sure I know how to get out of my neighborhood.

    8. Obituaries would be a lot more interesting if they told you how
    the person died.

    9. I can't remember the last time I wasn't at least kind of tired.

    10. Bad decisions make good stories.

    11. You never know when it will strike, but there comes a moment at
work when you know that you just aren't going to do anything productive
for the rest of the day.

    12. Can we all just agree to ignore whatever comes after Blue Ray? I
don't want to have to restart my collection...again.

    13. I'm always slightly terrified when I exit out of Word and it asks
me if I want to save any changes to my ten-page research paper that I
swear I did not make any changes to.

    14. "Do not machine wash or tumble dry" means I will never wash this
    -- ever.

    15. I hate when I just miss a call by the last ring (Hello? Hello?
Damn it!), but when I immediately call back, it rings nine times and goes
to voicemail. What'd you do after I didn't answer? Drop the phone and run away?

    16. I hate leaving my house confident and looking good and then not
seeing anyone of importance the entire day. What a waste.

    17. I keep some people's phone numbers in my phone just so I know not
    to answer when they call.

    18. My 4-year old son asked me in the car the other day "Dad what
would happen if you ran over a ninja?" How the hell do I respond to that?

    19. I think the freezer deserves a light as well..

    20. I disagree with Kay Jewelers. I would bet on any given Friday
or Saturday night more kisses begin with Miller Lites than Kay.

nothing puts me at ease like the moment a plane detaches from the ground. most times (when i remember) i play the "are you ready to die" game.

i love this game. i ask myself if i'm ready to die. then i have to get to the point where i can honestly answer yes. i always can. or i lose. i can't lose. so i make it there somehow.

thus swaddled in my fleeting mortality and achieved liberation, i gleefully enjoy every honey-roasted peanut package as if it's my own personal Last Supper.

The first snow of the year has arrived! Although it seems to have arrived a little bit more for everyone outside Baltimore, where we have a sort of oatmeal-y sludge. I hope this doesn't turn into a trend...

i'm currently running through tests of websites to see how badly the virus on my computer is still functioning.

this week, starting monday, was my week for finally digging myself out of the work/email pit that i've fallen into. there was so much to do in getting the middle apartment ready and preparing for thanksgiving dinner that i just had to shut everything else out and put it all on the back burner. this was the week that i had to catch up, because i have a lot of deadlines for a lot of projects all looming pretty much this weekend.

and so, of course, two hours after i sat down on monday to work, i contracted the first ever computer virus that i've ever gotten on this machine.

it started off as something i could work around...and by early tuesday it had completely incapacitated my internet browser.

so...instead of doing the work i needed to do, i've spent this entire week installing new antivirus and anti-malware software...running scans...uninstalling software...and doing a complete system backup.

i just turned the internet back on for the first time five minutes ago.

    the virus is still there.

it's currently not too bad, and something that i can work around...but that's how it started last time.

and now, instead of having five days to take care of business, i have about eight hours.

i'm about as stressed-out as it's possible for me to get...and i'm looking at the very real possibility of not being able to fulfill deadlines for projects that i've committed to.

i also lost my iphone earbuds / hands-free headset.

and my new credit card (i cancelled the old credit card and found it six hours later) arrived, and i had it in my hands for three minutes before it completely vanished into thin air. i didn't even take it off the paper it came on.

this has been a truly shitty week.

and there's no end in sight.
